Abstract

Differences in intimations , susceptibilities and physiological resistances as well as risk factors are found between men and women, and these make possible that health problems should be analyzed taking into consideration the gender. Moreover the physical consequences that are provoked by hip fractures in patients, these are also psychological, personal and familiar limitations, that is why this disease is considered as a transitory crisis in the family. For this reason we decided to study 400 patients that were operated in Matanzas ‘ Hospital “José R. López Tabrane” between january 2001 to december 2002, analyzing some sociodemographic variables; complications, places of the accidents and patient condition when discharged. The predominant result was the female sex, more that the 50% of the patient were hypertensive the most predominant type of fracture was the extracapsular of the left hip, the most frequent complication was the Neumopathy, the female had a better evolution and less mortality. We recommend the need of an effective primary prevention where the general doctor, the clinician and the orthopedist are together with the purpose to stop the appearance of an infection.
