Abstract

Periodontitis is one of the most frequent form in periodontal disease, being the first dental mortality cause and beginning at 35 years of age. It is considered a chronic immunoinflamatory illness in which the sulcur microbiota and host answer are primary risk factors. Investigations throughout the world have demonstrated that predominant periodontopithic germs are the mobile microorganisms, gram negative and anaerobes, being the non-mobile forms, aerobes and facultatives. Gram positive are extremely frequent in sulcus with gingivitis or healthy ones. Different treatment approaches have been used but the disease subclinically last and it is difficult to keep results stable, so this is why we proposed ourselves to evaluate Oleozone effects in the treatment of moderate and simple periodontitis. A phase III clinical assay, randomized, contolled and simple blind was carried out in 84 patients older than 35 years old, of both sexes having moderate and simple periodontitis who were seen in Periodontical Service. They were distributed in two groups an experimental one treated with Oleozone and a control one treated with 0,2% aqueous chlorhepidine. Patients were evaluated following 21, 90 and 180 days, with one month interval until 9 month after the operation. In the experimental group better clinical and microbiologic results were noted . No adverse effects were evidenced.
