Abstract

We carried out an educative intervention among the elders of Doctor's office 28, Health Area “Heroes del Moncada”, Matanzas municipality, during 2005, with the purpose of evaluating their knowledge about bucal health and achieving changes in their way of life. For that we applied affective-participative techniques, group debates, surveys and bucal examinations. In the examined sample there was predominance of the female sex and the age group from 65 to 69 years old. The risk factors that affected the most this group were: inadequate bucal hygiene, stress and bad adapted prosthesis, prevailing the last one after the Program was applied. We found that there was lacking of knowledge about the causes of the gums diseases and about not retrieval of dental prosthesis more than 8 hours a day. After educating the population, there were substantial changes in bucal health knowledge and, therefore, modifications of the way of life.
