Bioethics and abdominal liposuction

The scientific-technological progress in biomedical sciences that took place in the 20th century caused the need to respond to ethical problems and sought the protection of people. Consequently, bioethics is assumed as a discipline whose main objective is to guide actions by principles and values in clinical decision making. The study reflects on ethics and bioethics in the treatment and consequences of abdominal liposuction; all of this to contribute to the bioethical behavior of health professionals. According to the literature consulted, health professionals involved in technological procedures do not always evaluate the patient comprehensively nor do they act according to bioethical protocols. By having an adequate assessment of the bioethical aspects of the patient treated with abdominal liposuction, the risks of damage to their personal integrity are reduced and bioethical dilemmas are minimized. A clinical and psychosocial assessment must be carried out before determining the modification of physical appearance, to reduce the risks of damage and complications to physical and psychological integrity.
