Abstract

Glottal laryngeal cancer is the most curable of all lesions that occur in the upper aerodigestive system, when treated appropriately. There are risk factors that lead to cellular changes necessary for the production of cancer, such as smoking and alcoholism. The objective is to contribute to the knowledge of the scientific community regarding the current treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of the glottal larynx in the early stage. A systematic review of the medical literature available in the databases EBSCO, SciELO, Scopus, PubMed, oncology, radiotherapy and otorhinolaryngology journals was carried out; as well as articles shared on academic social networks, such as ResearchGate. Several articles published in Spanish and English were accessed at different times during the last five years. The descriptors used were: laryngeal carcinoma, early stage, treatment, surgery, radiotherapy, and survival, in both languages. The treatment of laryngeal cancer has changed significantly in recent years due to the development of laryngeal conservation procedures such as the development of new radiotherapy techniques that ensure cure with the least possible toxicity, as well as the introduction of new medications such as therapies directed at molecular targets. Multidisciplinary management through a coordinated oncology team improves patient care, quality of life, and the possibility of preserving the larynx.
