The Cuban medical university: its inexorable advance towards the education of the future

The universities of Medical Sciences in Cuba have the social responsibility of training the health professionals that today's society demands, with higher education facing the new global educational challenges. The objective of this article is to reflect on the contemporary trends of higher medical education in Cuba. Society demands a university that goes beyond the simple transmission of knowledge, contributing to development through science and technology. The Cuban medical university is marked by positive trends that contribute to the improvement of the teaching-learning process, with students assuming new active roles that place them as protagonists of their learning, which leads to continuous professional development, based on competencies and internationalizing higher medical education. Currently, information and communication technologies occupy a preponderant place in university training processes, with artificial intelligence constituting one of the key trends that will define higher education in the future, and which constitutes a challenge for Cuban medical universities. It is concluded that the contemporary trends of higher medical education in Cuba will guarantee the full performance of the health professional in the conditions that characterize the 21st century.Downloads
