In the region of the Americas, Cuba has one of the smallest rates of morbimortality in tuberculosis, for what the initiative arose of generating a common strategy toward the elimination of this disease like a health problem. We carried out an investigation in Health systems and services, with a cross-sectional descriptive observational epidemiologic design, in the municipality of Matanzas, in the period 2000-2006, based on an evaluation of the Program for Controlling and Eliminating the Tuberculosis like a Health Problem, for a better knowledge and, therefore, a bigger control of this entity, and also for discussing with the affected patients, the solution of each one of the deficiencies, as a part of the researches that are being carried out on the topic. The most affected age group was the one formed by persons that are less than 65 years old, with the supremacy of the male sex. The health areas of Contreras and Playa were the ones with more incidences. We arrived to the conclusion that 3 health areas reached the goal of rates smaller than 5 x 100 000 inhabitants, 3 reported rates between 5 and 10 cases per 100 000 inhabitants, and only one had rates higher than 10, what allows to affirm that the initiative of eliminating the tuberculosis is completed in the municipality.Downloads
