Behavior of chronic gingivitis in teenagers of “Jesus Fernández” High School. Santa Marta. Cárdenas

Gingivitis is the most frequent periodontal disease affecting adolescent patients as much as adult ones. A cross-sectional, descriptive, observational study was carried out aimed to knowing gingivitis prevalence in teenagers aged 12-14 years assisting to “Jesus Fernández Rodríguez” High School of the Popular Council Santa Marta, Municipality of Cardenas, in the period from January to July 2011. Teenagers were characterized using socio-demographic variables and the existing risk factors were identified, and also the knowledge level on bucodental health. We found that teenagers aged 14 years were the most affected, and among them the male ones. Among the most commonly identified risk factors were deficient dental contacts and the use of fixed orthodontic devices. As the result of the knowledge inquiry, 51,1 % of the teenagers was evaluated as good.Downloads
