Abstract

Both breast are a unic system, they have anatomically the same vascular and linfatic ways and functionally they have the same genetic and humoral stimulus, therefore it was deduced that if one of the breast is removed surgically due to cancer the another one has the same risk of having a breast cancer. In this paper we made a revision of medical literature about this chapter and was showed 20 female patients with bilateral breast cancer , all of them were operated at University Hospital of Colon in Matanzas Province during the period between January/1974-December/2002. We ‘ve found an incidente of 4.1% with 1.2% of incidente for synchronic tumours and 2.9% for metacronic ones. The diagnosis of the first tumour was made in patients with an average age of 50, the second one was diagnose at the average age of 54. The late diagnosis of the first tumour (80% was between Stage 2 and 3) influenced on a higher risk of having a second one.The patients who have a breast cancer have a risk of 5 times higher of having a bilateral breast cancer, for this reason a closed follow-up on these patients should be continued for the rest of their lives.
