Abstract

It is said that 2% of the pregnancies are ectopic, because the fecundation takes place at the Fallopian Tube, originating serious alteratime with maternal death risk. Nowadays its prevalence has triplicated in the world; in our hospital, in 2003 the incidence was 1 for 30 births. For that reason a prospective descriptive study of all patients hospitalized due to ectopic pregnancy suspision was carried out at Matanzas Gyneco Obstetric Traching Hospital “Dr. Julio Alfonso Medina”inpatients suspected of having an ectopic pregnancy during 2004 was carried with the objective to evaluate the behavior of the entity in these patients, its incidence, age and the main risk factors. The correlation between the clinical diagnosis and the histopathologic findings in the patients that fulfilled the inclusion criteria, was established among other variables. The data was compiled in a form prepared for that, with the written agreement of the patients. A database was made and the data was processed, using the statistic packet SPSS for Windows Version 10.0. The frequency of the ectopic pregnancy was 24, 4 %, being high in the group of 15-25 years old (35,3 %). More than half of the patients had had a previous pregnancy interruption (53,8 %). A clinic histopathologic correlation existed in 86, 1 % of the cases. Conclude that is a high frequency of ectopic pregnancy in adolescents and we recommend educating the population to prevent risk factors and early attending the doctor.
