Characterization of the teaching staff of Medical Imaging and Radiophysics

Introduction: The development of pedagogical competencies in teachers of health technology degrees is a constant need. These professionals, like the rest of the medical specialties, lack pedagogical training in the undergraduate level. The characterization of the teaching staff of Medical Imaging and Radiophysics in Santiago de Cuba is, in the first instance, the starting point for the design of the forms of pedagogical improvement.
Objective: To characterize the teaching staff of the Medical Imaging and Radiophysics degree.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional research was carried out at the Faculty of Nursing-Health Technology of Santiago de Cuba in the 2022-2023 academic year, with the 18 professors of Medical Imaging and Radiophysics. Theoretical (analytical-synthetic and systematization), empirical (documentary analysis, survey), and statistical (summary measures) methods were used. The pedagogical competencies of the teaching staff of Medical Imaging and Radiophysics were defined as a single variable, with the following dimensions: didactic, educational management, educational guidance, educational research, educational communication and ethical behavior.
Results: Problems were identified in the following dimensions: didactic, educational management, educational orientation, educational research and educational communication.
Conclusions: The characterization allowed identifying the composition of the teaching staff in terms of undergraduate training, teaching category, years of experience and gender; in addition, the postgraduate studies carried out and the age ranges in which the teachers are.
