Update to Editorial Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence

2026-04-25

Revista Médica Electrónica informs authors, reviewers, and readers that it has updated its Editorial Policy to incorporate explicit and mandatory guidelines regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation and evaluation of manuscripts. This update aligns with international consensus statements (WAME, ICMJE, COPE) and aims to strengthen transparency, methodological traceability, and scientific integrity.

Key changes incorporated:
• Mandatory and consistent declaration of AI use in both the WAME Manuscript Checklist and the Methodology section of the manuscript.
• Inclusion of an explicit statement in the Methodology when no AI has been used, ensuring consistency with the WAME checklist.
• Formal citation of the AI tool in the reference list under the software format (developer, version, date, and URL).
• Definitive prohibition of AI being listed as an author, co-author, or primary source of evidence.
• New guidelines for the use of AI by peer reviewers and the Editorial Committee, emphasizing confidentiality, human oversight, and ethical responsibility.

These guidelines take effect immediately for all new submissions and manuscripts currently under evaluation.
