The behavior of pneumonia associated to the ventilador has been pointed out in an Intensive Care Unit through a retrospective, descriptive and extensive study in 25 patients with pneumonia associated to artificial mechanic ventilation (AMV) and hospitalized in in Matanzas Military Hospital , Dr. Mario Muñoz Monroy, Intensive Care Unit during the 2000-2001 year period,4,86% of total admissions during the reviewed period had been identified with AMV.Ischaemic Cardiopathy, general survery and sepsis detected to another level werw the diagnostic groups whose greatest frequency of AMV was found.Early AMV was determined in 80% of studied cases.Prolonged ventilation, previous lung infectiond and the use of antibiotic-therapy before patient admission to the ICU have been the risk factors of nosocomial pneumonia in the studied series. The most frequent isolated germs in tracheo-bronchial secretions were Klebsiella SP, 34,61%, Enterobacter S.P 19,23% and Echerichia Coli 15,39%. We conclude that the survillance and prevention of AMV, should be,in our medium, an essential goal to periodic analysis in all Intensive Care Units (ICU) due to its great repercussion in the critical patient evolution.
