Abstract

The importance on when the woman with diabetes mellitus becomes pregnant at the metabolically ideal moment radicates in preventing maternal-fetal severe complications if such woul take place metabolic in control on coinciding with risk factors and chronic complications.We studied a group of diabetic patients whose ages ranged from 15 to 49 years old, living in this municipality and who were interviewed in order to know the characteristcs about the use of different anticonceptive methods,its valuation regarding acceptability innociaty,efficacy and current metabolic control in those vithout contraceptional. A 77,2% from all 44 women interviewed ,used some method,45% had a conventional IUD inserted and 40% were nulliparous,followed by surgical sterilization and barrier methods and finally the hormonal ones in 2,9%,IUD were the ones which produced more collateral effects.Women considered the surgical sterilization as inocuous and acceptable.The range of age for those who has no potection at all was between 40 and 49 years old with the belief that they would not get pregnant at this period of life and metabolic uncontrol was associated to it. More than 50% of the women who had been interviewed asked their family physician for advise on contraception,18% asked the gynecologist and 4,5% attended the provincial consultation offices for contraception and diabetes mellitus.
