Characterization of the scientific production in the Military Hospital of Matanzas during the fourth-year period 2011-2014

Introduction: bibliometric analyses are an essential tool for evaluating the research results that are published in scientific journals.
Objective: to characterize the behavior of the scientific production of the Teaching Military Hospital “Dr. Mario Muñoz Monroy” in the period from January 2011 to December 2014. The articles published by health professionals working in that institution were analyzed.
Materials and Methods: a descriptive bibliometric study was carried out using as a sample all the medical journals certified by the Ministry of Sciences, Technology and Environment (CITMA in Spanish) containing publications submitted by health sciences professionals working in Matanzas Military Hospital.
Results: case presentations, a total of 16 articles, represent the higger number of published articles according to the typology of the article. The most prolific medical specialty was Internal Medicine, with 9 items. Most of the articles appeared in Revista Médica Electrónica of Matanzas, for 28 works, followed by Revista Cubana de Medicina Militar. The bigger number of authorships belonged to doctors for 47, headed by the group of aspirants. The category of Assistant Professor predominated, with 22 professors.
Conclusions: the authors’ scientific production published in biomedical journals certified by CITMA increased during the studied period. The current research is useful for increasing the quantity and the quality of the scientific production of the Matanzas Military Hospital.
