Knowledges, attitudes and practices of nursing on mental health

A qualitative and qualitative study has been carrried out in order to evaluate knowedges, attitudes and practices that nurse have on Mental Health from health institutions at Matanzas municipality corresponding to the Carlos Verdugo and Milanes policlincs one without communitarian psychiatric attention and the other with Mental Health and the Psychiatric Hospital Antonio Guiteras in this city ,being the only one that offers speculized attention.This study comprised from May 2nd to July 2nd,2000.An instrument of quantitative character was applied which evaluated the knowledge on mental health is such aspects as alcoholism,violence and attempting suicides programs from current public health and about Psychiatry Reorientation using for it equal procedures . Six focal groups have been created gathering 13 and 14 nurses from each one of the study areas, applying question guides party structured leading to evaluate attitudes and practices in the same tematics as in the previous instrument, participating the same nurses to whow the inquiry was attributed. Quantitative results are shown in a summary manner,using criteria of unanimity, majority, and with no consensus.
