Abstract

Eigthy two chidren ranging from two days old 13 years og age (6.25 3.98) hospitalized in the Matanzas Chidren Hospital with the presumptive diagnosis of epilepsy have been studied.The present classification of epilesy and the epileptic crisis are applied (II AE,1981),taking into account: the age when crisis started,its characteristc,risk factors noted in relation with the epilepsy(background of epilepsy,prenatal,perinatal and postnatal pathologic history) psicomotor development,complete physical examination and the results from the goal to evidence the utility of the current criteria application in the diagnoses of epilepsy. Symptomatic systemic epilepsy was the most frequent (48,99%),followed by the idiopathic systemic one (18,29 %).
The type of crisis most frequently found was the systemic tonic-clonical so much in the idiopathic systemic epilepsy (86,6 %) as in the symptomatic systemic one (37,5 %).Epilepsy history in one family member ,was found in all types of epilepsy.A high perecentage of abnormilities in the EEG (82.93 %)has been found. Is this study the diagnosis utility of concept appication and epilepsy current classification and its crisis has been evidenced.
