Abstract

The term puerperal infection is used to describe any bacterial infection of the genital tract after delivery. During much of the twentieth century puerperal infections, preeclampsia and obstetric hemorrhage were part of the lethal triad of maternal mortality. Ultrasonography, magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography are the triad of choice for the diagnosis of acute abdomen in the puerperium, which is difficult due to intrinsic factors and it is when radiologist plays a vital role. The authors present the case of a woman, aged 30 years, at the 8th day after undergoing a cesarean section with a normal immediate puerperium, who later presented abdominal pain.
