Oleozone in the treatment of edematous chronic gingivitis

Abstract

The chronic gingivitis is one of the most frequent forms of periodontal disease. It is considered a chronic immunoinflammatory condition of the protective periodontum, where the furrow microbiotic and the host answer are important risk factors. According to the clinic and histopathologic characteristics it is classified in edematous, fibroedematous and fibrous. In a group of patients, they used ozonized sunflower oil, Oleozon (as unique medicine) in the treatment of the edematous chronic gingivitis, and it was compared with a control group, in which 0,2 % aquous chlorhexidine. Weekly tartrectomies were made in both groups and bucal physiotherapy was indicated. The sample was composed by 100 patients older than 15 years old, randomized. Weekly applications were made and all the visits they needed. The healing criteria taking into account was the remission of the edema and the inflammation until the normal characteristics of the gum is reached and the gingival bags and bleeding disappear. 93 % of the patients healed with Oleozone and 65 % with chlorhexidine, with significant differences in both groups. Most of the patients of the study group needed three appointments or visits to the doctor's office and the patients of the control group needed more than 4 visits or appointments. There were not detected adverse reactions to Oleozone.
