The purpose of this study is to determine the behavior of sugar ingestion in children aged less than 1 year old living in the vicinity of the doctor's offices 62 and 63-A, Milanes Health Area, Matanzas . The sample was composed by 91 children, the totality of the registered in those offices under the age parameter. The obtained results showed that 68.1 % of the children ate sugar in one or another form at the moment of the survey. It was observed that the quantity of ingested sugar increased with the age. Besides that 26.1 % of the children ate sugar four times a day and 16.1 % of them referred more than 6 daily contacts with that kind of food, being the moments of more ingestion, meals (91.9 %) and before going to sleep (82.2 %). We considered the necessity of leading a common work between general integral doctors and dentists to enrich family and parents education about the use of carbohydrates, particularly saccharides, in children's diet, because they have been frequently associated with the early showing up of dental caries. That way we reinforce the importance of the children's bucal health for their future.Downloads
