Abstract

The beginning of the human immunodeficiency virus and the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome has caused a perennial impact on the humankind. There have passed more than 20 years since the casual agent was identified, and , even when some progress have been done to differentiate its characteristics and infection mechanisms. No efficacious treatment has been discovered to heal the disease. In 2005, there were 40,3 million people living with the human immunodeficiency virus and the ciphers are still increasing. That is why it is important that all the health workers master, in their professional level, the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome pathogenic, evolution, early manifestations and control and prevention measures.
Motivated with this, we carried out an up-to-day bibliographic review on the more frequent bucal manifestations of the human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome with the objective of reaching the necessary knowledge to early detect these lesions during the exertion of our profession. Our investigation showed that the most frequent AIDS- associated diseases that involve the bucal cavity are: oral candidiasis, hairy leucoplakia and periodontal disease, among other. Kaposi's sarcoma and no-Hodgkin lymphoma, though frequent in patients in other countries, do not have the same behavior in Cuba . In subsequent studies we are going to determine the behavior of these manifestations in human immunodeficiency virus/ acquired immunodeficiency syndrome patients in our province.
