Abstract

We carried out a descriptive analysis of the aneurisms found in the necropsies made at the Teaching Provincial Clinico-surgical Hospital “José Ramón López Tabranes” and at the Military Hospital “Mario Muñoz Monroy”, both of Matanzas . We describe the characteristics and distribution of the aneurism related with the age, sex, aetiology, topography, form and percentage of the pre-mortem diagnosed aneurisms. We established the relation of these variables by tables and graphics. As a result we found a frequency of 3, 9 % of aneurisms in a total of 5 489 revised necropsies protocols, (in a 10 years period). This pathology predominates in the eighties, with 29.6 %; the most affected sex was the male sex (75.3 %); the most frequent aetiology was atherosclerosis (62.1 %) with aortic abdominal location (47.9 %); the most frequent form was the baggy form (42.9 %) and affected, in the first place, the thoracic aorta (42.1 %). The diagnosis during the patient's life was of 27, 8 % of all the 219 reported aneurisms.
