Abstract

We carried out an investigation of educative intervention in diabetic patients in Valle de Tucumeno, in 2004, with the objective of evaluating the influence of an educative intervention in developing their knowledge. The universe was formed by 52 adult, diabetic patients of the parish, and 30 patients were the sample. We applied a query before and after passing the course Basic Information in Diabetes Mellitus. 90 % of participating patients obtained an insufficient qualification at the beginning of the intervention, turning it over because at the end 83.3 % obtained excellent. The behaviour was similar when comparing all the qualification categories. We concluded that there was a predomination of the primary scholarship, female sex, media age 55 years old and 7 years of diagnosis media time. At the beginning of the intervention, the knowledge level of the patients in the four areas of the content was insufficient; at the end there was an important increase of the knowledge level these patients had about the disease they suffered.
