Abstract

This research presents an experience with 150 operated patients through urology ambulatory surgery at “General Pedro Betancourt” hospital in Jovellanos. All these patients were operated on pathologies like unilateral or bilateral varicose and hydrocele.
Trough this research we show some important items like: the age between 15 and 35 years was the most frequent in the studies, the left varicose was the most operated on disease, following the patients with bilateral varicose, right varicose and left hydrocele. The most common anesthesia was spinal followed by intravenous general and peridural. The most common complications were first rachialgia, second hidrocele and epididymitis. The average time the patient stayed and the hospital was 5 hours and they were discharged before 20 days by medical prescription. The economic savings of the institution were $48 709,50 since $324,73 were economized in catch surgery. In keeping with the obtained results and the economic savings the effectiveness of the ambulatory surgery has been demonstrated. It is recommended to use this surgical procedure in other urology pathologies and to extend it to other surgical specializations.
