Professionalization strategy for the development of communicative skills in the physician-patient relationship

Abstract

Introduction: At present, the development of the communicative skills of observation, expression and empathy of the residents of internal medicine constitutes a challenge in their professional performance for the improvement of the physician–patient relationship.

Objective: To model a professionalization strategy for the improvement of the development of communicative skills in the relationship physician-patient of the internal medicine resident of the Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital Joaquín Albarrán Domínguez.

Methods: An intervention and development study was carried out, with a pre-experimental design and a mixed perspective, which implied a process of collection, analysis and linking of quantitative and qualitative data during its development. It is sustained in the general dialectical materialist method and in the methods of scientific research at the theoretical, empiric and statistical levels, which allowed to verify the problems and potentialities from the variable and the dimensions.

Result: This result offers a theoretical-practical reference that allows the development of communicative skills in the physician-patient relationship in the clinical settings, encourages originality and creativity in the face of communicative problems, and also offers possible solutions for the professional performance of the internal medicine resident.

Conclusions: The theoretical and empiric verification in the implementation of the professionalization strategy for the development of communicative skills in the internal medicine resident made it possible to reveal that it is necessary and feasible to achieve an appropriate physician-patient relationship. Thus, it becomes an effective way to improve professional performance in clinical medical practice.
