Current state of the value responsibility in students of Degree in Nursing

Introduction: Responsibility is among the human values that need to be formed in the students of Degree in Nursing.
Objective: To diagnose the current state of the value responsibility in the students of Degree in Nursing of the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos.
Methods: A qualitative-quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out at the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos. The study population was 193 students, 50 professors and 8 staff members. The sample consisted of 58 students and 5 staff members. Variable: formation of the value responsibility in the students of the Degree in Nursing. The dimensions were cognitive, evaluative and behavioral. The theoretical methods used were analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction, historical-logical, documentary analysis and systematization; the empirical methods were surveys, interviews, observation and expert judgment and the statistical ones were percentage analysis and the Delphy method.
Results: Problems were identified according to the cognitive dimension (lack of awareness of the aspects that define the value responsibility), the evaluative one (among the factors that most influenced in the training of the value responsibility in the students are the lack of adequate salary remuneration and the disinterest of youth) and the behavioral one (low level of responsibility for participation in political activities and in the attitude toward studying). The potential was identified in the cognitive dimension, and it turned out to be the knowledge of teachers and staff members on the documents that govern the process of value formation.
Conclusions: The value responsibility is poorly developed in the students, taking into account the current educational level.
