Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus: a diagnostic challenge for the dermatologist
Keywords:
lupus erythematosus, subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus, autoimmune diseaseAbstract
Lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune entity, of unknown etiology, with a chronic course and a broad clinical spectrum, ranging from the chronic cutaneous form to the systemic erythematous one. The subacute variety is primarily a disease of white women that begins on average in the fifth decade of life and it has been described that in 50% of cases it could evolve into systemic lupus erythematosus. It is an intermediate stage in which the mucous membranes, skin annexes and skin are affected, especially photo-exposed areas, but rarely the face. On this occasion we present the case of a 56-year-old man with generalized lesions that include the facial area, with a satisfactory response to treatment.
