Prevention of sexually transmitted infections in the training of the graduates in Psychology

Introduction: In Angolan higher education, it is increasingly necessary for the training of future psychologists to include preparation for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, given their high incidence in contemporary Angolan society.
Objective: To assess the theoretical positions that supports the importance of the prevention of sexually transmitted infections in the training of the graduate in Psychology.
Methods: A bibliographic review of the updated medical literature was conducted from September 2024 to February 2025. Twenty-two sources in Spanish, English, and Portuguese were reviewed; sixteen of them correspond to the last five years and the remaining six to the last decade.
Results: The study allowed systematizing an experience implemented in the training of the psychology professional through the collaboration between the Ministry of Education of Angola and the Technical University of Angola with aim of reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS in the national education system.
Conclusions: The preparation in prevention of sexually transmitted infections is essential in the training of future psychologists, given their high incidence in Angola. This requires a critical approach to training, towards the acquisition of new knowledge and its creative application in specific contexts.
