Abstract

Ichthyoses are a group of genodermatoses that present with keratinization disorders. They can be congenital or appear in the first years of life and are characterized by scaling resembling fish scales. Autosomal recessive congenital forms are rare disorders that are included in the non-syndromic ichthyoses; the acral self-resolving collodion baby is a minor manifestation of these. The case of a 24-hour-old newborn that showed at birth a transparent, shiny and adherent membrane covering the skin of the limbs was presented. The baby was placed in an incubator, in a wet medium and topical treatment with emollient and moisturizing creams was prescribed. The skin lesions showed immediate improvement, with complete resolution at 2 months of age.
