Introduction: To improve teaching and learning processes in a field that requires constant updating and accuracy, Information and Communication Technologies, facilitate access to updated information, foster innovative methods, and strengthen interaction between teachers and students
Objective: To determine whether a specialized intervention program improves the use of information and communication technologies by health sciences teachers.
Methods: A quasi-experimental research with pretest and posttest design was conducted, in which a training program in information and communication technologies for health sciences teachers (n=110), was implemented. The action included 16 seminars on digital tools (4 months). Four aspects of teachers’ performance were evaluated: information, communication and collaboration, coexistence, and technology.
Results: The information and communication technologies training program significantly improved academic teaching performance in the experimental group, with average scores increasing from 3.05─3.25 to 4.05─4.20 (p<0.001; Z between -4.56 and -5.33). The control group showed no significant changes (p> 0.20; Z ranging from -1.01 to -1.26). Intergroup comparisons in the posttest revealed significant changes in favor of the experimental group (U ranging from 555.0 to 582.0; p=0.000). These results confirm the effectiveness of the program to enhance the dimensions.
Conclusions: The study confirms that the incorporation of information and communication technologies into teaching training significantly improves academic performance in health sciences. The implemented program proved to be effective and replicable.
