Introduction: Fat transfer to the buttocks has become increasingly popular due to more efficient liposuction and grafting techniques, as well as evolving aesthetic ideals. It is important to understand the survival of the grafted fat tissue and the satisfaction of the patients with the results.
Objective: To describe the results of gluteal lipo-transfer in patients operated on in the Plastic Surgery and Burn Treatment Service of the University Clinical Surgical Hospital Faustino Pérez, in Matanzas, in 2023.
Methods: A prospective, longitudinal, descriptive, observational study was carried out; 68 patients participated.
Results: The highest frequency of patients was between 31 and 35 years old (36.76%). The mean volume of grafted fat tissue was 687 ± 142.18 ml, with a range of 500–990 ml; the mean survival rate was 91.13 ± 2.99%; an inverse relationship with the grafted volume was observed. The main complications were seroma (14.71%), hematoma, and mild infection (13.24%). Patient satisfaction was 77.94%. Dissatisfaction was associated with postoperative course. Shape, firmness, volume, and survival rate were below 90%.
Conclusions: The dissatisfaction of the patients was motivated by the presence of post-surgical complications and the failure to meet expectations regarding the shape, firmness, and volume obtained through gluteal lipo transfer.
