Bibliometric analysis of the scientific articles published in Revista Médica Electrónica (2003-2009)

The aim of our study was describing Revista Médica Electrónica, of Matanzas, reviewing the articles published between 2003 and 2009. 531 articles were analyzed, obtaining information on the quantity of published articles per analyzed years, the average of articles published in each number of the journal, the specialty of the first author, the quantity of the docents of each medical specialty, the motivation of the publication, municipalities and health institutions where investigations were developed, and percent of published articles per municipalities and health institutions. We recorded an average of 75 articles per year and 12,6 articles per number. The most representative specialties of the main authors were: General Surgery, Microbiology, Neurosurgery, Orthodontics, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Medical Embryology, Immunology, Traditional Natural Medicine, Pediatrics and Radiology. We stated that a low percent of docents published their work. We also stated that there was a predominance of personal interests as motivation of the publication. Matanzas, Cardenas, Colon and Varadero were the municipalities with more contributions. It was also stated that the institutions with more articles published were the Medical Sciences University Dr. Juan Guiteras Gener and the hospitals of the province.Downloads
