Dr. Fernando Mendez Capote: a paradigm of the Medical Sciences in Cuba

Fernando Mendez Capote was involved in the incidents of November 27, 1871 and was the survivor of this brutal event who lived the most. He took part in the foundation of the first Medico-pharmaceutical Center in the Island. He carried out the first ovariotomy in the city of Cardenas. He participated in the First Regional Medical Congress celebrated in Havana, and at the end of 1894 was distinguished as “Favorite Son of Cardenas”. He the first gynecological clinic of the country opened in his natal city. In 1899 he held the office of mayor of Cardenas. In 1917 he was designed in the Secretariat of Health and Benefaction of Cuba. He was a Member of Honor, Member of Merit and vice-president of the Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences of Havana. The aim of the current research is acknowledging the main aspects related with this illustrious physician life and work.Downloads
