Abstract

A study was done using all 35 patient esplenectomized at our instituite from september 1996 to the present date, either using conventional procedures (19 patient) or minimum access procedures (16 patient). Using the date obteined from each patient and the type of operation performed, we were able to make a comparative analysis between the 2 type of procedures, determining the advantages and disadvantage as well as the contraindications of each. The study showed that minimum access surgery has greater benefils for the patient and for the economy of the country and the need to increase knowledge of this type of procedure.
