Abstract

Cerebrovascular diseases are a group of illnesses that invariably involve blood vessels in change of the nervous central system irrigation, being,at present,a health problem and during the last decades, they have been identified as the third cause of death among the population.Arterial hypertension results are its main risk factor and strategy to diminish cerebrovascular disease(CVD) morbimortality most undoubtedly has to be the control of hypertensive patients as a main priority. This is a descriptive study in which morbimortality due to cerebrovascular diseases in Matanzas province is a reviewed and its relation to arterial hypertension since 1996 to 2003.
The universe and sample include all cases controlled by both diseases during the period mentioned before and those patients who died of CVD.
Results have demonstrated that Matanzas is the province throughout the country with largest prevailance in both diseases, but at the same time it is also the one with largest amount of controlled hypertensive patients,so this positively influenced in cardiovascular disease mortality rate, achieving its decrease at a greater accelerated rhythm than the rect of the country.
