Abstract

The practice of nursing is continuosly opposed to the identification of problems whose objective is not only to fight the disease, but also to satisfy a wide repertory of human needs whose evaluation and diagnosis are an essential part of the current activity of the nurse. The method through which this is carried out is the Process of Nursing Attention. In 1958, one the greatests theoreticians of the nursing science, Dorothea Elizabeth Orem, established a conceptual model based as a human need. In the Nursing System, the most general of all its theorics, makes reference to the self care and the scarcity of it, defining in this way the structure and the content of the nursing profession. Having the intention to show that the model presenting the scarcity of self care proposed by this relevant investigator can be accepted and applied in the Process of Nursing Attention, we carried out this work, convinced that it may contribute to raise the quality of the Cuban nurse professional perfomance.
