Abstract

An applied descriptive-prospective study has been carried out regarding the behavior of children with the diagnosis of sepsis, hospitalized in “Julio M. Aristegui Villamil” General Hospital in Cárdenas during the period between september 2002 and octuber 2004. The sample included 79 patients and sepsis classification was performed according to bone stadium. Some variables were studied like age, risk factors, remission place and sepsis evolution. Bening forms of sepsis predominated, being those children under one year old the most affected ones and malnutrition and chronic diseases were the risk factors with highest incidence. The largest number of patients with sepsis diagnosis had arrived remitted from the emergency ward 98.7% of all cases were discharged alive.
