Abstract

A descriptive and retrospective study has been carried out with the purpose to know the behavior of urinary sepsis in children hospitalized in Cárdenas during the period of one year. Clinical histories of children who had been discharged from the hospital with diagnosis of demonstrated urinary sepsis were revised during the period from january 2002 to december 2002. The universe agrees with the sample, complied by 12 children. In order to obtain the sample we had in mind all children who had positive urine cultures. As a result of this work we were able to find that the UTI (urinaring track infection) in our mean is more frequent in the first 3 years of life specially in the period comprised from 6 months to 1 year of age (43%) with a prevailance in females. From the 72 studied patients, 42 had their first episode of UTI. Regarding the complementary tests, erythrosedimentation was raised in 81.9% and white blood test in 54.1%. An amount of 45.5% of the children had pathologic cyturia and renal ultrasound showed an anomaly in 2.1%. E. Coli was the most frequent germ (79%) and Amikacin was the antibiotic most frequently used.
