Motivations of the General Integral Medicine toward Biblioteca Virtual en Salud de Cuba

Introduction: during the last years, the staffs of Medical Universities have been working in increasing the motivations of the residents in General Integral Medicine toward Biblioteca Virtual en Salud de Cuba (Virtual Library on Health of Cuba in English) in carrying out important research.
Objective: to identify the motivations of the residents of General Integral Medicine toward Biblioteca Virtual en Salud de Cuba.
Materials and methods: a prospective, longitudinal, analytical study was carried out using the dialectic materialist method that allowed applying theoretical, empiric and statistic methods. Among the first ones, the analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction were used, and in the second group, the documental analysis and surveys were used. The sample was formed by 50 residents of General Integral Medicine from the University Polyclinic “Raúl Sánchez Martínez” in the period February 1st-April 31, 2016.
Results: the residents motivated toward Biblioteca Virtual en Salud de Cuba predominated with 66 %. The declared main motives for its usage were searching information for scientific works and bibliographic reviews, while the causes for not using it were the employment of other texts and materials of study with 35, 3 %.
Conclusions: the residents’ motivations toward Biblioteca Virtual en Salud de Cuba were related with the materials interesting them found in it. The research provided a diagnosis of the current situation and a perspective of the desired level, having unquestionable value for future strategies.
