During the period between january 1993 and april 2003, we carried out a descriptive and observable study in the general surgery service at Matanzas Dr. Mario Muñoz Monroy Military Hospital, to those patients operated of inginocrural hernia with local anesthesia by ambulatory surgery. The sample included 726 patients, 638 men (87.8%) and 88 women (12.1%). The most frequent hernia was the external oblique one, with 352 patients (48.4%). Thirty three patients had complications (4.5%) and wound sepsis and post-operative orchitis were the most frequent ones, with 8 cases respectively (1.10%). The average hospital stay was 12 hours. Hernioplastia with prothesis was the surgical technique most often used in 589 patients (81.1%). Patient tolerance to local anaesthesia was good in 86.5% and not good in 13.5%. Hernia relapse was found in 0.9% of all cases.Downloads
