Abstract

The term “In Situ Lobular Cancer” is a complex term, it has been better named as “Lobular Neoplasm”. Around 1993 the medical databases had reported about 1000 cases of In Situ Breast Cancer. This pathology is an entity that select women who have a higher risk of getting an invasive breast cancer. We have done a lineal and retrospective study of all patients who were admitted and operated in the General Surgery Service at “Dr. Mario Muñoz Monroy” University Hospital in Colón, Matanzas Province with the diagnosis of breast cancer; of 495 patients who were operated in the period from january/1976 till december/2004, we found 22 patients with the diagnosis of In Situ Breast Cancer, 18 of this patients had the diagnosis of In Situ Ductal Cancer ;the latter have been the cases of our work. The General Incidence of In Situ Breast Cancer 4,4% (22/495), while the incidence of In Situ Lobular Cancer was 0,81% (4/495), the average age was 56, one case had a bilateral and metachronic disease , 75% of our cases had a breast node during the examination and the surgeon performed a radical surgery because the frozen section did not indicate an “in situ” neoplasm. In one case the diagnosis was done through a mammographic study so in this case the surgeon performed a conservative surgery. We report a survival rate of 100%. Only the early diagnosis of breast cancer will bring higher survival rates and better prognosis to this kind of patient.
