Mayor Ambulatory Surgery.Ten years of experence.

A descriptive and retrospective study was carried out to 3538 patients operated by the ambulatory surgery method in the General Surgery Service at Dr.Mario Muñoz Monroy" Military Hospital,in Matanzas City during the period between january 1993 july 2003,with the purpose to demonstrate the method advantages to tahe patient and to the institurion.Patients operated of abdominal wall hernias prevailed with a total of 930 patients(27,4%) followed by gallbladler diseases, video laparoscopic cholecystectomy was done to 750 patients(21,1%).From all anesthetic techniques perfomed,the most frequent,was the regional one in 1216 patients(34,3%),followed by local anesthesia in 1074 patients(303,%) and continued by general anesthesia and acupunctural surgical analgesia in diminishing order. There was a total of 138 postoperative complicatons(3,9%) being wound sepsis the most frequent one (52 patients)(1,45%),regional anesthesia was the one with largest number of complications,represented by post operative urine retention(28 patients)(2,7%) and post rachial headaches (18 patients)(1,7%).We considered the assistance quality as good since only 25(0,7 ) patients werw enterd to the surgical ward for minor complications and 35 patients(0,9) had to be hospitalized again,after being dischanged from the hospitalDownloads
