Abstract

The resulta of 100 studied patients (100 eyes) taht werw seen at the opthalmology exteral consultation office in Matnzas " Faustino Pérez" Teaching Hospital from january 2004 to march 2005 is presented, their sumptoms were:headache, color vision halos, frequent change of eteglasses, visual acuity decrease, some did not present subjective symptoms but alteration of cup/disc was detected in the eye fundus and others, cular tone elevation so thay werw also included in the studio. All patients had visual acuity with Snellen optotype and optometry, slit lamp,gonioscocy, direct optalmoscopy, tonometry,visual field and tonometric curse. Simple chronic glaucoma of open angle predominated presenting a tonometry cup disc alteration,over 25 milimeters of mercury and typical carpimetric defects in 57% of patients.The medical treatment of this entity was up dated. The used of Beta blockers as the initial drug is recommended, as second option, myotic pilocarpi, 2%,and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors ,adrenergic agonuts and invasive surgery or not
