Bad rotation and volvulus. Report of a case.

Intestinal bad rotation with volvulus is one of the most serious emergencies in infants under one year old. Early diagnosis and surgery would prevent intestinal gangrene and peritonitis. We present the case of a one-month old child treated in the Pediatrics Ward of the Universitary Hospital “Gabriel Toure” of Bamako , Republic of Mali , with bile vomits and fever. Some image studies were made to state the diagnosis: a simple X-ray of abdomen, and X-rays of stomach and duodenum. Two possible diagnostic hypotheses were stated: occlusion at the level of duodenum-jejunal angle as a result of a possible bad rotation with duodenal stenosis and volvulus, and annular pancreas. Surgical treatment was applied, as a result of which an intestinal bad rotation with duodenal stenosis for Ladd's band and stomach volvulus were corroborated.Downloads
