MEDICA magazine: notes for its history

Abstract

The Monthly Magazine of Medicine and Surgery (MEDICA) was published for the first time in Matanzas, on July 1 st , 1921 and entered the world of Cuban medical press with a very good acceptation of medical scientist and professionals. During these 80 years of existence, it has gathered the main articles and clinical observations of eminent doctors from Matanzas and from different parts of the world. It keeps in its pages scientist works, therapeutic updating, letters, caricatures, special editorials, pictures, short stories, personalities and institutions homage and a history of medical events that have taken place in Matanzas , making each edition a reference place for historian and doctors. Our interest is making a review of the magazine since its birth and draw attention to it as one of the oldest Cuban medical publications still circulating. It should be enough motivation for health professors, technicians and students to make known their works in its pages, a truly monument of history and professionalism.
