Maternal risk prevalence in association with congenital heart disease in descendants.Matanzas Municipality 2000-2004.

In general, it is accepted that the etiology of the 90 % of the congenital heart diseases depends on the interaction of genetic and environmental factors. This prospective work is developed to determine the prevalence of these factors in pregnant population attended at the Communitarian Genetics office in Matanzas municipality during the period 2000-2004 and their association with congenital heart diseases in descendants. It is concluded that the prevalence of genetic factors is 8, 08 % and the prevalence of environmental factors is 25, 59 %. The most frequent factors are: alcoholism, hypoxia, maternal agedness and arterial hypertension; the most affected areas are:• For genetic factors: Versalles, Contreras, Playa and Ceiba Mocha.
• For environmental factors: Versalles, Carlos Verdugo, Milanes and Playa
14, 28 % of the descendents affected with heart diseases had some genetic antecedent; 28, 57 was exposed to any cardiovascular teratogen , 16, 66 % was associated to both factors and 40, 77 to none of them.
