The upper gastrointestinal bleeding can be defined as every blood loss of enough quantity as to produce hematemesis or mane, beings its origins from the mouth to the angle of Treits. With the objective of determining the behavior of this entity in patients entered by this cause in the Surgery service of Mario Muñoz Monroy Hospital during the period February 2004- February 2005, a descriptive retrospective study was carried out where the following variables were picked up: age, sex, race, personal pathological antecedents, endoscopic diagnosis and, in the case of diabetic patients, types of Diabetes Mellitus and metabolic control. The descriptive statistics applied to the results led to the following conclusions: predomination of this disease in advanced ages, male sex, and association with the use of nosteroidal antinflammatory drugs. The most frequent discovery was the hemorrhagic gastritis.Downloads
