Abstract

The odontologic profession appeared in Cuba in the XIX century. With their knowledge and dignity many professional have honored and glorified our homeland. Among these important figures we can find the notable matanzasan odontologist Antonio Recasens Garrido (1879-1942), precursor of the celebration in Cuba of the Latin-American Odontologist Day. He has the merit, among many others, of having created the first dental dispensary for poor children in Matanzas in 1918. He was an eminent exponent of the Cuban science men and is considered the soul of Cuban Odontologic Society. Since the beginning of his career, this odontologist obtained acknowledgments for his untiring professional dedication.
It is very difficult to go through all of his facets in this short exposition, but some pages sustained in data and historical photographies give an idea of its entirety and sense.
