Cuba has been a prodigal land in giving illustrious sons in the fields of science and arts. In Matanzas, cultivated province of the island, considered ”the Cuban Athens”, there have lived several personalities of the medical sciences pondered as relevant from the scientific point of view.At the end of the XIX century and the beginnings of the XX, the name of José Antonio Valdés Anciano stood out in the biggest of the Antilles . He was one of the erudite physicians of the epoch. He was a founder and Titular Professor of the Professorship of Pathology and Clinics of Nervous and Mental Diseases of the University of Havana , numeral Academic of the Academy of Natural , Physic and medical Sciences of Havana and a member of prestigious national and international scientific societies.
Motivated for knowing the professional life of this Matanzazan neuro-psychiatrist we consulted documental and bibliographical sources in prestigious national and provincial institutions, trying to approximate to the trace left by an authentic neurosciences defender.
