Abstract

Late childbearing is taken place more and more frequently since the nineties. Our country and our province had not being an exception. We also received the impact. We carried out a longitudinal descriptive study at the Teaching Gynecologo-obstetric Hospital “Julio R. Alfonso Medina” of Matanzas , during the period between 1998 and 2003. We took a sample of 1725 35-and-more-years-old childbearing women from the total of 19 067 childbirths occurred during the period. They represent an incidence of 9.05 %, processed in the statistics system MICROSTAT, by the percentage method. There were recorded psycho social facts of the patients in a record book prepared for that purpose, looking for the impact they had on the pregnant women; the cause, motivating the pregnancy at that age was also recorded. We found that 55.7 % of them were workers; 74.4% were married; and the cause motivating the pregnancy at that age in 85.8 % of them, was a second marriage.
